Siri, the amazing assistant that Apple has
integrated into their iPhone 4S, makes the phone really special. Siri on iPhone
4S lets you use your voice to send messages, make calls, set reminders, and
more. Just speak naturally, Siri understands you, and interacts with you. Siri
understands what you say. Siri stands for ‘Speech Interpretation and
Recognition Interface’ is an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator
that works as an application for Apple's iOS 5 and above. Officially, Siri is
only limited to iPhone 4S and so are the services associated with Siri. But for
all of us who own either iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS (or both), are we stuck up with
only the other features iOS 5 has to offer?
The answer is no. All jailbroken iDevices (which can run iOS5) an can now take the advantage of Siri. How? I’ll show you:
I assume your iDevice is jailbroken.
Although Siri starts by keeping the Home
button pressed, it stops with an error saying that it isn’t available at the
moment.
To completely enable Siri and get real results, you will need to enter a
proxy host URL (which you might have to pay for). The method I liked best was to install a SiriServer on the iPhone itself, which provides the proxy to Spire. For this, you need to install the AssistantServer
Installer from Cydia. It costs only a meagre $0.99 (that's only about Rs 50 in India) *.
NOTE - There are a
few repos (IHR for one) that host AssistantServer Installer for free, but isn’t really a
legit way of getting it. I suggest you stick to legal methods only. It's a very small amount to pay.
I assume you're going ahead with
AssistantServer Installer and getting your own SiriServer setup.
Search and install AssistantServer
Installer.
Once installed, on your iDevice, go to Settings. Scroll down
to find SiriServer and tap it. Tap Install Certificates. Note the URL provided:
http://localhost:4443
Goto Spire and enter the URL under Proxy Host. Now you can start using Siri.

And trust me Siri really does what she’s
supposed to - from taking down notes, to calling up people in your contacts.
Not just that, you can even play around with her by asking her fun and weird questions. Have
fun.
To get a wider range of results you might actually want to get API keys from their respective websites to configure your SiriServer. They're free.
