Apple's Siri is an intelligent automated assistant, to be used on an electronic device (as of now only iPhone 4S), to allow the user to interact with the device, and to avail services. In different manifestations, Siri interacts with the user in an integrated, conversational manner using natural language, and calls for external services and obtains information and performs various actions.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday published the first patent application from Apple, for Siri that has so far been integrated only into the iPhone 4S. Though the application describes Siri as what we have on the iPhone 4S, Apple also discusses implementation of Siri into all kinds of devices, to include desktops, laptops, email, cars, cameras etc. It is discussed in the application, that Siri will have the ability to integrate with external devices and thus control them remotely.
Apple's application anticipates Siri to issue recommendations of various natures to the users. This may include suggestion to users about maintenance of products from time to time, advice to procure services, or personal management techniques, for example, Siri might be able to suggest the best flight for you after analyzing your requirements.
These new features and the new tools introduced with Siri will be designed to remodel the way we do our work, teach, and the way we learn. Only time will tell how (if at all) Siri will change the way we live.
